A Florida woman has been charged after police rescued six children covered in lice and with open sores on their faces from her filthy home.

Sara Resko, an insurance agent from Ocala, Florida, is accused of neglecting the children and leaving them to live in 'deplorable' conditions while she went to work.

Not all of the children are thought to be hers. They were discovered on Tuesday after a neighbor saw a two-year-old girl who was naked from the waist down wandering the streets near Resko's home and called police.

The two-year-old was with a four-year-old boy who was also dirty and partially clothed.

When police arrived at the scene and started speaking to them, four other children emerged from the house.

The six children were living in a filthy, dog-feces infested home which had no electricity and no running water

They were aged six, eight, nine and 13.

They all had lice and told police that they had been left alone by Resko in a house down the street.

There was no running water, no food and no electricity. The children slept on stained mattresses and there were flies swarming the property, according to police notes.

Around 30 minutes after they arrived at the house, Resko returned.

She tried to claim that she had left the children alone for under an hour and argued as she was put in handcuffs.

'Are you f****** kidding me!' she shrieked before declaring the arrest 'so f****** stupid'.

She sobbed as she was put in the back of a patrol car and asked repeatedly to be let out of her handcuffs.

At one stage, she claimed she could not enter the car in the way deputies told her to because she was wearing a dress.

Resko was charged with six counts of child neglect. The children were all removed and will be placed in other homes.
