Off The Hook

AS TELEVISION'S ARCHIE Bunker, actor Carroll O'Connor spewed a lot of angry words as America's favorite fictional bigot. Last week, a Los Angeles jury decided O'Connor had a right to some angry words of his own. Harry Perzigian (who was convicted of supplying O'Connor's son, Hugh, with cocaine before Hugh's suicide) lost a slander suit he brought against the actor after the grieving dad publicly called him a ""sleazeball'' and ""partner in murder.'' While Perzigian's lawyers claimed he had ""lost the fun of being alive,'' the jury apparently felt that O'Connor had lost something far more important - his son - and had good reason for his real-life Bunkeresque candor. Said O'Connor, ""I knew a jury would back me up.''
