Long-time Quad Cities business columnist and philanthropist Jim Victor has died from a motorsport accident.

Victor was vice president and financial advisor to Morgan Stanley in Davenport.

He was practicing for a race in Milwaukee on Friday, when the accident happened.

One of his closest friends, Dougal Nelson, spoke with Local 4 news about the legacy Victor will leave behind.

“One of the things Jim would say over and over to me was that involvement breeds engagement,” recalls Nelson. “And what he meant by that was that if we can get people involved and touch and feel these programs that we put out there, we can grow it, and we can grow the impact that we have on the Quad Cities.”

Victor has been involved with Junior Achievement for three decades.

A golf tournament that raises $60-80,000 a year for students was named after him.

Victor also helped launch the first morning news show in the Quad Cities.

His former KWQC station manager Cathie Whiteside shared with Local 4 News this statement:

“When I think of Jim Victor I think consummate professional. Jim helped launch the first morning news in the Quad Cities at KWQC having no prior television experience. Jim was always so articulate and prepared. Jim was also a generous local  philanthropist – sharing his expertise and treasures with many local non-profits. In addition to his passion for car racing, Jim was a long-time member of the Cornbelt Running Club. Jim will be missed greatly by his many, many friends in the business, non-profit and ‘racing’ worlds.”
